A plant-based diet is good for your health and good for the environment. However, moving from a diet that is heavy with animal products to a plant-based diet can be difficult. Peter Dinklage has been living an exclusively plant-based diet since 2014 but was vegetarian for 15 years before that. He has been an outspoken animal activist with Blue Cross warning fans against adopting huskies and putting an animal at risk by not understanding their needs. He also promotes the benefits of a plant-based diet on the environment and personal health.
2. Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth has eaten a plant-based diet since 2015, even convincing brother Chris to try the lifestyle. Liam cites animal welfare as his motivating factor. Will.I.Am, best known for being a member of the Black Eyed Peas, speaks out about the negative effects of meat packing companies and processed foods on the environment and on personal health. He shoots down negative stereotypes of living a plant-based lifestyle and calls out the media for criticizing vegans while glorifying violence and sexism. He calls for his fans to join the “V.Gang” with him.
4. Jenna Marbles

Jenna Marbles is a well-known social media personality best known for her comedy videos featuring her dogs but she talks openly about her plant-based and gluten free lifestyle. She has been credited with normalizing a plant-based diet and making it seem accessible to everyone with her recipe and cooking vlogs. Some of her vlogs focus on how she sometimes struggles with cravings for junk food and comfort foods that aren’t plant-based. Jenna changed her diet because long-term partner Julian has dietary restrictions.
5. Mayim Bialik

Big Bang Theory actress, doctor of neuroscience, and author Mayim Bialik has been plant-based for more than 20 years. She speaks frankly about raising two children on a plant-based diet and dispels myths about the health risks of the diet to children. She has published a cookbook and is now using her fame to open a fast-casual restaurant in Los Angeles.
6. Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has been eating a plant-based diet since 2013. She credits a whole food plant-based diet for helping her live a happier, healthier life. Grande is an unapologetic animal rights activist that has criticized the dairy and meat packing industries. She also spoke out against Seaworld’s abusive animal treatment and treatment practices. Ariana makes a point to show her fans that living a plant-based lifestyle does not mean that can’t enjoy food.
7. Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone lived a plant-based lifestyle since 1998. She is an outspoken activist that speaks against animal cruelty and animal testing in the cosmetic industry. Silverstone is also committed to conservation. She wrote a cookbook called The Kind Diet to accompany her healthy lifestyle website in 2009.
8. Venus Williams

Venus Williams adopted a raw plant-based diet after being diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes severe fatigue. She has been able to maintain her successful athletic career which she credits to her diet change. When asked about her diet she stresses that the only way to successfully change your diet is that you “have to enjoy what you’re eating”. Her sister, Serena, also follows a mostly plant-based diet after seeing the health benefits.
9. Nathalie Emmanuel

Game of Thrones actor Nathalie Emmanuel is also an athlete who practices yoga, distance swimming, boxing, and running. She shoots down myths about the diet by talking about her favorite plant-based, protein heavy recipes. Emmanuel also admits to a sweet tooth and isn’t afraid to admit that she loves cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream.
10. Ellen Page

Ellen Page has been vocal about her plant-based diet for years. She is an environmentalist and conservationist that is critical of factory farming and commercial produce production. Page has said she strives to live a lifestyle that is in harmony with the earth and believes it is everyone’s responsibility to improve the earth. She is also an active human rights activist.
11. Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel has been plant-based for more than 25 years. She cites her love for animals as one of her motivators to change her lifestyle initially. Since then she has talked about the negative impact of the meat and dairy industries on the environment. Famously, she insisted that all of the props she worked with in the popular TV series Bones were entirely free of animal products. She is raising her son to live a plant-based lifestyle, as well, and campaigns against.

Singer-songwriter Sia actively works to end animal homelessness and to call attention to the animal cruelty in her native Australia. She narrated and participated in the making of the documentary Dominion (2018) which strives to expose the mistreatment of animals used for food, clothing, entertainment and research.

Benedict Cumberbatch switched to a plant-based diet after a harrowing experience in South Africa made him evaluate what he held important in life. Beyond a plant-based diet, Cumberbatch has indicated that he lives a fully plant-based lifestyle. He advocates for sustainable, cruelty free clothing options having appeared on the red carpet in a suit made of “future wool” and vegan leather boots. Cumberbatch advocates a minimalist lifestyle that impacts the environment as little as possible.

Mark Ruffalo has been an animal rights activist and unapologetic environmentalist for years. Ruffalo openly admits that committing to a fully plant-based diet is a huge change for most people and that successful change usually happens incrementally.

Scarlett Johansson alternates between a raw and non-raw plant-based diet. She credits her diet as being a big part of her routine to prep for her role as Black Widow in the Avengers’ movies. She said that the diet gave her the energy and strength to face the hours of exercise and training she went through in the months leading up to filming.

Musician Stevie Wonder’s diet has been plant-based since 2014. He cites health reasons and concerns for the environment as his reason for the change. Stevie is open about how his health has definitely improved since making this change. Wonder advocates for the public to adopt a plant-based lifestyle in an effort to avoid further damage to the environment.
17. Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix has been living animal products free for more than 40 years. He recalls a fishing trip when he was young. Joaquin was watching as they were bringing in the catch and stunning the fish by hitting them against the side of the bat. The event pushed him and his two siblings to adopt this lifestyle and stop consuming any animal product. He has been a long-term animal activist and devoted to exposing the cruelty of the factory farming and meat packing industry. Phoenix works with Mercy for Animals extensively and has also been involved in producing the documentary Earthlings and Netflix series What the Health.
18. Rooney and Kate Mara

Actress Rooney Mara and her sister Kate both avoid animal products in their diets and lifestyles. Rooney has been vocal about removing animals from the fashion industry and owns the fashion line Hiraeth in response to the difficulty she had in finding animal-free clothing options. She expands on her opinions of the fashion industry to also include cruelty free practices involving humans and speaks out against exploitative practices in the fast-fashion market.
19. Moby

Musician, author, and restaurateur Moby is also an animal rights activist and humanitarian. He faced backlash from his fans over his 1996 album Animal Rights but it did nothing to stop him from continued advocacy. Moby also edited Gristle: From Factory Farms to Food Safety (Thinking Twice About the Meat We Eat), a collection of ten essays written by professionals within the food industry taking an honest look at factory farming and the restaurant business.
20. Natalie Portman
